What Antoni has written here also applies to my family. I only recently discovered documents that were in possession of my mother's eldest sister. These are death certificates issued in Teheran regarding the deaths of a sister and their parents in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
I had no idea that such documents existed, and it was only because I decided to write to the convent in Rome where my aunt died many years ago, asking them whether they possibly had any documents of hers in their archives ! When they sent me these death certificates I nearly fainted ! For one thing, I had no idea where or when my grandparents were born, and these documents provided those details.
So I suggest that members not give up in their searches, as sometimes information comes from the most unusual sources.

I am not sure whether many people know, but it is not such a peculiar question as it might sound.
When civilian families arrived in Iran (Persia - Tehran) in 1942, they reported all deaths within their families or of their friends while in transit whether they were in Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan or even in Krasnowodsk and Pahlevi. We have a certificate issued in Tehran recording the death of my father while in transit and having been taken off the train in Turkestan city (Kazakhstan).
The recording of death in Tehran was done in presence of vitnesses who generally travelled with a particular family,
so one hoped that some record of these statements might have survived at the Polish Embassy or the Consular Services in Iran.
When a corpse was taken off while in transit normally a receipt was issued by the collecting party, but it seems no records exist in any of the Russian archives I searched; or atleast, not given to me.
Perhaps other members of KS have other observations.
