My Dad was there too. He was with Reconnaissance Squadron of 1 Pulk Ulanow Krechowieckich. As far as I can work out, the unit arrived in Sand Hutton in late 1946, was incorporated into the Polish Resettlement Corps and the soldiers were disharged from their service from there.
I believe, but cannot confirm, that most soldiers were encouraged to make a decision on their return to Poland. If they chose not to return, they were 'assisted'to find jobs in the area. Many of them settled in the Leeds/Bradford/Dewsbury area.
