I am glad to hear that this is in print again. I had to scour the
world's secondhand bookshops and get a copy shipped from the U.S. to
the U.K. I endorse your recommendation for the following reasons.
Some books can be a bit detached and academic. Others that are more
personal tend to concentrate on the experiences of people following
the deportations. Gross' book, more than any other that I have read,
really gave me a feeling of what it was like living under the Soviet
occupation before (and therefore after) the deportations, and that
was a life changing experience.
