The problem I have is this. My father and mother told a story that
never made sense to me. Now I either don't recall why, or they
really did not know why, the following story came about so to
speak. Anyway I was told that my father and mother had to lie about
my mother's place of origin and her age so she could marry my father
who was in the USA Military. She claimed she was born in 1927, not
1925 as listed on the papers.
So the papers I have show that she came from Warsaw, Poland, but as
a child and into my adult years, she told a story of coming from a
place near Kiev, Russia. She said her father was killed, but I have
no idea who killed him, and that her mother was arrested for
smuggling "black market" items on the railroad. When the mother was
put in prison, my mother was sent to a farm to live.
At some point she went to Germany to work. She must have been a
teen, as she made the decision to go for work.
Now I guess she was about 13. She went willingly. But the year would
have been 1938 or 1940. So then I have to ask what was the state of
the war in those years in Poland and in Russia. Would it make sence
to thing she went willingly? And would they have sent her as a
forced labor person? And she said she worked as a sewer, and also a
maid. She also said she was in the resistance in Germany, but I
really do not believe that.
Never the less when I was born, my records say she came from Warsaw
Poland. She in 1945-47 was living in Hanua Germany. She married my
father who was in the USA Military, and I was born in the 385th
Station Hospital, Nurnberg. I have tried to find out who she really
was, but I can not find any records on her, before the marriage to
my father, and have only seen my military birth records.
I also understand I had an older brother, and that he may have been
given up for adoption. So that leads me to ask what last name would
he have had, and if he did not live, where would he be buried.
So many questions and my mother just died, never answering me. I am
left with a lot of painful feelings and really am mad at her. I feel
she should have told the family the truth.
