We must not let the stories of our parents and grandparents be
forgotten. Russian ultra-nationalists continue to rewrite history and
regress on the issues of human rights and past truths.
Time Magazine reports that "New state textbooks (in Russia) hail
Stalin as 'the most successful Russian leader ever'." Soviet
atrocities against the Polish nation, only admitted by the Soviets in
the Gorbachev era, are once again at risk of being denied, minimized
or stricken from the record.
And our friend and ally, The Memorial Society, is suffering
repression. Read the November 24, 2007 article about the beating of
Oleg Orlov, Memorial's Chairman, at http://www.memo.ru/eng/news/index.htm.
This is in addition to the beatings and assassinations of journalists
and opposition party members that have been taking place for some time.
