AUSCHWITZ CLOSES RUSSIAN EXHIBITION: Officials from the Auschwitz museum in Poland have refused to open a new Russian exhibition until its Russian organizers recognize the occupation of Polish territory by the Soviet Union. Russia has interpreted the move as a political demarche: a foreign ministry spokesman said that Polish historians were "rewriting history according to the tastes of the current Polish leadership." Relations between Poland and Russia have been strained since Warsaw vetoed the start of negotiations on a new partnership and cooperation agreement with the European Union.
