I would like to inform the Group that I have posted on the Memorial Gallery a set of photographs that I found after my late father, Wladyslav Grabowski, died.
He was born 20th May 1920 of Polish parents Bernard, a shoemaker, & Maria (nee Brzusinska) and I believe spent some or maybe most of his early years in Odessa in the Ukraine . I understand that he had two younger brothers, Leonard and Piotr or maybe Vetec I am not sure. I know for certain from information obtained from the MOD in Hayes that he was enlisted with the Polish Army on 20th July 1942 and posted to the Special Reserve Regiment. His army record states that he served in Iran , Iraq , Palestine and then in Italy . He was awarded The Polish Army Medal, The Cross for Monte Cassino (No 39780), The 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, The Defence Medal and the War Medal 1939-45.
All of the photographs posted onto the Memorial Gallery were found in a black box where my father kept all of his private papers and his war medals. He never talked of his life before or during the war years. When he arrived in the UK after the war I believe that he spent some time in resettlement camps in Godalming in Surrey, Rhoose in South Wales and Foxley in Hereford .
I hope that the photographs are of interest to members of the group and, maybe someone somewhere maybe able to identify some of the many soldiers and places featured in the photographs.
