I'm 37 and I live in Bialystok, Poland. My grandfather, Maksym Lauda, was a soldier of the Polish Army, which was being organized in 1941-42 on the Soviet territory. Evacuated to Iran, on the re-organisation of the Polish Army in the Middle East he was posted to 5 Anti-Tank Artillery Regiment, 5 Kresowa Infantry Division, 2nd Polish Corps. As his brothers in arms, he fought Germans in Italy until the day of the Germany unconditional surrender. He arrived in the United Kingdom on 6.10.1946 and was stationed at Darlingworth Camp Gloucestershire. On 29.1.1947 he was repatriated to his homeland, the village Dziewiatkowce (Volkovysk region), where he was born in 1908 and where his wife and two sons (one of them was my father) lived. Unfortunately in 1947 Dziewiatkowce was on the Soviet territory, although not so far from the Polish border. In 1951 all my family (parents and grandparents) was deported to Siberia, but this is another story.Although there are many blank pages in the history of my granddad, I would like the most to recover any facts from two periods:1) 18.09.1939 (capture by the Soviets) - 24.08.1941 (enlisting in the Polish Army at camp Wiezniki)2) 2.05.1945 (surrender of Germany) - 6.10.1946 (arriving in the UK)My granddad died in 1995 (he was 97). He almost never told us about his war time experiences. Almost all, that I know about his army service I recovered in 1995 from his service record, stored by the British Ministry of Defence.I would be very thankful for any help, any piece of information. Maybe someone of his brothers in arms still lives anywhere in the world and still remembers his humble person.I am proud to be a member of Your community.Thank youSlawomir Lawda/sadwal36/
