4. In this case, the discussion was not "shut down"
as soon as you posted. It lasted from about 2:00 PM Friday (Australia time) to
2:00 PM Sunday - about 48 hours. You first posted at around 11:00PM Friday, not
after the initial 2:00 PM posting that simply said the film was
valuable, but in immediate response to a negative comment about the relationship
between certain Poles and Jews made by another member. Then the discussion had
about 15 exchanges (3 from you) before it was drawn to my attention. When I read
the exchange, it became clear that several members required a warning that
they were going off-topic and against the cooperative, friendly values of
5. You suggest that when a Jewish member responds, that is not
allowed, and that we should either allow totally open discussions of Jewish
issues or ban them completely. I disagree with banning anything to do with Jews,
because a large number of Jews who were Polish citizens were victims of Soviet
persecution, and the purpose of this group is "researching, remembering and
recognising [ALL] the Polish citizens deported, enslaved and killed by the
Soviet Union during World War "
6. People who make broad generalisations will often be challenged. When
these are about a particular racial or ethnic group of people, the remark is
considered racist and will not be tolerated in this group. If you find that a
member does this about any racial or religious group, whatever it is, please
notify the Moderator at firstname.lastname@example.org
it will be dealt with.
7. You may be surprised to hear that many people in this group, or their
families, were singled out for persecution during the war because they were
Polish, and that their neighbours from other ethnic groups [that is, not
ethnically Polish, but for instance Ukrainian, Jewish, and Belorussian]
participated in their persecution. Perhaps this is one reason why the discussion
of ethnic groups during the war always sets of raw nerves. This group is about
persecution, so it will always dredge up pain on the way to understanding and
forgiveness. But some people are unable to look past the actions of some
individuals and go on to condemn an entire race because it had some
bad people in it. People from all groups are guilty of that.
Can we get back to the purpose of this group now? Do you have any other
