Re: [Kresy-Siberia] Re: Re : Forgotten Odyssey video facts
Note: This letter is to Eugene Starky, group member since February and producer of the film "Valley of Tears" in his series "From Archipelago GULAG to America" (see http://www.elitartistic.com for this and for other films from Elita Artistic Enterprises). This is a film in Polish with English subtitles, featuring historical Polish and Soviet film footage and photographs, as well as interviews with survivors now in America.
Once again, we see how we Poles - even those united by this cause - have a talent for internal dissension.
"PHONY" and "misleading" are such harsh and judgmental words. If this group does not discuss your film (or anybody else's), that does not make it phony or misleading. This group discusses whatever the members want to discuss. Nothing prevents you or anybody else from promoting your films as much as you want. However, membership is voluntary and if you don't like the group, you don't have to be a member.
And "never" is such an absolute word - and wrong too, as your film or website has been mentioned at least 6 times on this list. Here are the references:
In particular, on April 6, I wrote:
"Also, group member Gene Starky (NY) has made "Valley of Tears" (Dolina Placzu), his third - and reportedly best - in a series of survivor testimonies (Polish with English subtitles). See http://www.elitartistic.com/ for that film, as well as for others by Gene on Katyn and the Polish WW2 experience."
The film "A Forgotten Odyssey" may have been mentioned more often, but after all it was that film that prompted the creation of this discussion group. While the producers made two promotional tours to screen the film around North America which were publicised on the group, your promotional tours could be publicised too if you wanted. And the website "www.AForgottenOdyssey.com" is referenced frequently as well - but it is more than a billboard for selling films. Unlike your website, it provides historical maps, sources and references for research and links to dozens of other websites and sources on the Polish Gehenna/Genocide/Holocaust (or whatever we choose to call it).
However, you do have every opportunity to promote your film in the whatever way you want. There is no exclusivity policy about this group - many books and videos have been publicised, including Michael Adamski's "Rescued from Death in Siberia" (http://www.mdavideo.com/). Recently, Mark in England also wrote about videos at http://www.thebiglittleretailcompany.com - which has "Free Polish Forces", "Battle for Warsaw" and "Daily life in the Warsaw Ghetto". And there have been discussions about the BBC's "Struggles for Poland" as well.
Eugene, the Kresy-Siberia list welcomed you as a full member of our group. Your access to this group has never been restricted in any way. However, our group values state that "members strive to avoid disparaging or offending other members - this is a friendly and supportive group with common goals..." Those who wish to enjoy the group's help and support, and who wish to retain their membership privileges, need to act in a manner consistent with these values. Consequently, your membership has been temporarily put on hold.
Please contact me privately at Kresy-Siberiaemail@example.com if you have any specific concerns you wish to discuss and if you wish to restore your membership.
