Many thanks, Romuald, for that information. I did find the entry
for Irena Galster, who is indeed my father-in-law's mother. I must
research further, and find out what happened to her husband, who, I
believe fled to Germany, for fear of being killed by the Russians,
as he was an officer in the Polish Army. His name was Emmanuel
Kalkowski. I believe he was born in Tarnopol (now in the Ukraine).
I have been looking for my mother-in-law's family (KALKOWSKA:
mother's name unknown and children: Krystyna and Basia) on the
lists, but cannot find any record, either on the USSR/Iran list or
the Africa (Red Cross) list. In fact, the camp in Rhodesia where
they were sent -Gatooma - does not appear at all on the Red Cross
list. I wonder if it may have been run by some other organisation?
Does anyone have any information on Gatooma?
