Position: PROGRAM ASSISTANT - Local Immigration Partnership (LIP)
Contract: 12 months (21 hours per week)
Location : York South-Weston
Reporting to: Community Planner (York)
Social Planning Toronto is a non-profit community organization committed to independent social planning at the local and city-wide levels. We work to improve the quality of life for all people in Toronto through community capacity building, community education and advocacy, policy research and analysis, and social reporting.
Social Planning Toronto is looking for a part-time (21 hours/week) Program Assistant.
This position assists and supports the LIP, an active and emerging partnership of over 20 organizations, community groups and networks focused on the successful settlement and integration of newcomers in York South-Weston neighbourhoods.
Responsibilities and Job Duties:
The Program Assistant¡¦s responsibilities and job duties include but are not limited to the following:
„X Provide coordination for all aspects of office and record-keeping systems of the project, maintaining a professional office environment and ensuring office supplies and equipment are adequate and maintained in good working condition
„X Maintain open lines of communication with a large number of project stakeholders including funders, partners and service providers
„X Support LIP Project meetings, retreats, consultations and events with logistical supports, including scheduling, drafting agendas, minute taking, booking space and other assistance as required
„X To research reports, statistical data, presentations and other resource materials for meetings, retreats and other events, and ensure that appropriate documents and technology are in place to communicate information
„X Assist in the development, preparation and dissemination of flyers, brochures and other promotional materials, as well as other communication materials
„X Handle petty cash, ensuring appropriate documentation and reconciliation of all expenditures related to the LIP project
„X 3 to 5 years related experience
„X General knowledge of the areas of immigration, settlement, and issues facing newcomers to Canada
„X Familiarity with the social, economic and cultural conditions of high need communities; knowledge of the York South-Weston neighbourhoods an asset.
„X Sensitivity to and ability to work with diverse and vulnerable populations, as well as with community agencies;
„X Excellent computer skills (60-80 wpm using a variety of computer applications such as Windows, Microsoft Office, proficiency in use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint) ; excellent ability in Desktop Publishing, design and Internet functions
„X Ability to work in a multi-task environment, set priorities and meet deadlines, completing a range of detailed work related to research, report writing, event planning and other project activities as required
„X Ability to effectively communicate with the public by telephone or in person
„X Ability to work independently and as a member of a team in a flexible environment, contributing to overall team effectiveness
„X Oral and written fluency in English; knowledge of one (or more) additional language(s) an asset
„X Ability to work evenings and weekends when required

Salary range: $34,000 - $46,500 pro-rated to 21 hours per week plus benefits.
