Dear Mr. gupta,
Yes it maybe old wine in new bottles but atleast a
step is being taken. What you suggest is what I have
been screaming for last three decades. We hvwe too many
rules and regulations why so we can all pay bribes to
our public servants.
Let me expalin where I came from. I used to be in jute
business and was the biggest buyer in the world. We
controlled 4% of Indian foreign trade but all
evaporated in 70's. Why State Trading came in piture
snd sold goods without any knowldge of the market.
Jute commissioner had authority like a KING and
shipments were delayed.I shifte some of the trade to
East Pakistan but that industry was new.We had labour
problems in calcutta and goods were often delayed.
Despite our approach to Ministry of commerce etc
nothing ever came out. Some days there is export duty
next wek it is gone. We suffered losses because of
incompetence of Indian redtape. We decided to move out
to plastics. The company which had done business with
India for more than a century stopped all
purchases. The bitter experience of those years still
rings in my head.
The STC and MMTC were started on Russian models and
its employees became so used to bribes that they will
even refuse promotions to other department. Do you
think the Center did not know? When these people to
come an buy fertiliser, pulp, sulphr etc they will
openly ask 3% cut which no one will payhere as it is
illegal to do such business.
Your suggestion that Marketing Coprporation of India
shud be set up is same as asking for STC MMTC as thee
will be Govt employees and efficiency is a word which
does not exist in their vacoublary. Are we again going
to continue on same path.
As for India ever becoming a world engine room, we
need so many changes that I doubt if anyone has guts
to do that.
1. We need abolition of aal Govt
ordinances, regulations and any kind of control whether
at customs or requirement os licence to export.Any
American can export anything and does not have to go
thru any regulations or permits or licencess, except
certain defence products. In India you need even for
goods for your home purposes.
2.Labour laws shud be changed so that there are no
unions whoi can strike anytime and everytime. Unless
we have flexiable labour regulations, we will remain
undeveloped poor nation.
3.All industry shud be open to private enterprises
even defence so that we can get some big defence
manufacturer from West to establish in India.
4. Brand India can only be popular if there is flow of
goods without any stoppagee.i. strike, lack of energy
5. Infrastructure must be improved. Whave road which
are flooded and unpassable during moonsoon dor months
and I am talking of main highways.
I can write a book on it. But has any elected Govt
have guts to get their heads out in sunshine and see
the world where it is going. We have been brain washed
for last 56 years on leftist ideas and first step Govt
shud take to denationalise: Electricty, phone, banks.
Get a World bajnk loan and instead of road being built
by crooked Indian engineers and contrators, give it to
Koreans or Germans etc. so we can get some true
infrastructure.Go to Pakistan and see what Korean have
done wonders for them.
