(Jul 1) ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- Scott Mellanby, who provided grit and
leadership after he was acquired late last season, re-signed Saturday
with the St. Louis Blues.
Financial terms of the two-year contract were not disclosed.
Mellanby, 35, was obtained from the Florida Panthers at the March 13
trade deadline for a minor leaguer and a 2002 draft pick. He totaled
11 goals and 10 assists in 63 games but picked up seven goals and an
assist in 23 games with St. Louis.
In 15 playoff games, Mellanby contributed three goals and three
assists and was one of the more effective players in the Western
Conference finals against the eventual Stanley Cup champion Colorado
"Scott brought skill, determination and leadership to our club during
the stretch run last season and particularly during the playoffs,
when he was consistently one of our top players," Blues general
manager Larry Pleau said. "The qualities Scott brings to the rink and
to a locker oom are extremely valuable and important to team
Mellanby also has played with Philadelphia and Edmonton during a 15-
year NHL career, amassing 285 goals, 641 points and 2,016 penalty
minutes over 1,079 games.
