Uniondale, NY (January 3) The Islanders acquired 27-year old
center/wing Jason Blake from the Los Angeles Kings this afternoon for
a conditional draft pick. The 5-10, 180-pound Minnesota native was 1-
3-4 in 17 games this season with the Kings. During the 1999-2000
season, Blake was 5-18-23 in 64 games with LA.
"Jason is very reliable at all three forward positions," said
Islanders GM Mike Milbury, "but more importantly, he brings a lot of
energy and a great attitude to our team."
Blake signed with the Kings on April 17, 1999 after a standout career
at the University of North Dakota. He played in his first NHL game
the next day against the St. Louis Blues in which he tallied his
first NHL goal.
Blake told NEWYORKISLANDERS.COM he's going to do everything possible
to arrive in New Jersey from LA in time for Thursday night's game
against the Devils in the Meadowlands.
"I'm looking forward to being an Islander," Blake said. "We have a
lot of talented young players and some good vets to learn from. I'm
going to do my best to help it all come together."
