> Imagine if we got Palffy back? Crap, that would make this team a
formidable force and one to be reckoned with throughout the league.
I can't help but think about what that would do to our depth chart.>>>
It's nice to hope for that but if he cannot resign with the Kings
it means his agent is still unreasonable because they already have
made him a very fair offer which is about six million a year. Why
does Milbury want to deal with that agent again?
And fact is as good as Ziggy still plays he does break down more
often now and is in his mid-thirties. He would be a huge help to
Yashin but it does not solve the size/speed problems that plague this
Also how many true right wings do they have under contract?
Parrish, Hunter, Asham, Godard, Webb, Weinhandl.
This does not even count Czerkawski, Blake, both who do their best
scoring off right wing.
That's eight right wings and does not even include Jeff Hamilton,
who led the AHL in goals and deserves a look.
Bottom line is the Islanders have to get payroll down to survive a
work stoppage and they should reduce payroll almost any way possible.
I cannot see any senario where they spend. Best I think we can hope
for is a trade where a higher salary (Hamrlik, Niinimaa, Parrish or
Peca) are traded for a skilled player with a lower salary to help
It makes more sense for the Isles to wait for the end of a
work-stoppage see what a possible cap would be and then sign players
at lower prices in a reduced market. To spend now is to overspend
under rules that are going to expire.
> Next move would be to bring in some D-man with some size. Are there
any out there that can be had for cheap? We could afford to dump
some guys if we got Palffy to free up some roster space and replace
them with some youth. Not that we don't have that now but it wouldnt
hurt. Also some of the guys we have aren't going to get any better
like Bates, Czerkawskis and Asham. Those guys are maxxed out
The only defenders they can add are in deals where they give up
experience for lower salaries and more potential. I think it says
something that Jonsson, Niinimaa and Aucoin as good as we see them
are not good enough to even represent their country. The Isles cannot
even get a deal done with Ryan Caldwell or if has been done, it's not
I would disagree on Asham because he is still a younger player.
Czerkawski's goals have to be replaced.
