Call this today's Rant.
I was thinking about two years ago before the team had an official
website and realized how much more we know about our team because of
The first Islanders website xice, was horrible and had little of
value on the team, the Islanders opened that year with no television
coverage and really no one knew anything about the team, the players
and I think fans just kind of forgot about the team and were for
years before that.
A few years before that we had really nothing but some newspaper
articles with little details. Pre-season coverage was and still is
non-existant with no shows about the Islanders. Given the space
newspapers have and that football is starting and baseball is
finishing, its fair to say your not going to see news on the Islanders
unless it is major, except in Alan Hahn's Newsday Column. Before
Hahn, John Valenti covered the Islanders and did not write much in
the summer months.
To me its much better today, because we get plenty of material. The
only down side is there are lots of people who enjoy writing and now
because of the internet, they have a place to have their say, which
in my opinion is fine, but it should be fair on some of these
websites that let fans post.
For example I have plenty of opinions that I will put on this list
that I will not post on Hockey's Future because the idea at that site
is to write about what is happening around the team. I was given no
restrictions on what I could write about, but I feel I have to check
my personal feelings at the door and be honest to the best of my
ability even if I do not like it.
For me the teams website has really made a great effort to keep fans
informed and have gone out of their way to interact with the teams
fans and let them know what's going on, and have no doubts about the
team website has united many Islanders fans in the last year and
because of it were all more knowledgable.
