Mr.Philip Ayyamplackal has made varied concrete suggestions to be placed in front of the Managing Committee.I sincerely congratulate him for the worthy and well studied inputs.
Rev.Fr. K.K. John has stated that Bishops are becoming in effective and their numbers should be reduced.Yes,it is indeed true that this is happening.
It is a fact that a handful of these Bishops who are not enlightened are even discouraging the Holy Synod from making far reaching, forward looking, progressive decisions. To avoid having Bishops who eventually become ineffective ,after they adore Bishop's robes, it is important that very 'right candidates' are selected.
Let us have Bishops who will eventually be radiating the kind of holiness and dedication like that of HG Late Lamented Stephanos Mor
Theodosius,Parumala Thirumeni and Pampady Thirumeni or of the wisdom and stature like HH Mathews II, HG Paulose Mor Gregorious and HG Philppose Mor Theophilose (of Blessed memories) and the living legend of a Bishop like HG Geevarghese Mor Osthathiose.
I,however, think that number of Bishops should be proportionate to increase in Orthodox population as well as Congregations and Parishes.Bishops do have a very cardinal and sentimental role in our Church worship and performance of Sacraments but we should make sure that their selection is done after extreme objective scrutiny.A strict screening cum selection committee should be formed under the guidance of a Priests like Rev. Dr. K.M. George and Rev.Fr.Johns Konat and other learned eminent men of Church, whose recommendations should be submitted to the Holy Synod for final approval.
