This is the third closest DP to my house and the second closest since I start geodashing in April 2003. I was going to go out and get this point at midnight but it just didnt happen. So after a busy morning, I finally got out this afternoon to grab this point. The remnants of Hurricane Issac came thru with some heavy rain yesterday, about 2 inches locally. We had another brief downpour this morning and Im not sure if it is over yet. Whatever we get, it is very much welcome but it will not be enough to end the drought, it will only slow it down.
So, it was wet, a welcome relief after such a dry summer, as I drove towards the DP. I went past Hensley Park where I tipped my virtual hat to my good friend Larry Hensley who died a few years ago from the effects of multiple sclerosis. As I continued on, the houses started getting bigger and nicer. I went past the Old Warson County Club, a private course, designed by Robert Trent Jones and site of the 1971 Ryder Cup. The fairways and greens looked incredibly green as I went past and it wasnt just from last nights rain. I turned from Old Warson Road onto Warson Road and houses became enormous. This is not my type of house here. After I went down a hill and across a stream, I pulled into a side street. The sign said Somerset Downs and Strictly Private. The DP was 240 feet away, in front of a pond with a large fountain/sprinkler in the middle. The house is smaller than some of the other, 3 stories, brick with a 3 car garage. As I left, I drove slowly in front of this house to get within 61 feet of the dashpoint but I was surprised at how well the house was hidden from the main road by bushes and a large privacy fence.
Thats the first dashpoint for September and 3 points for Rogbarn, thanks for getting me out to another interesting point.
