Subject: Saturday October 6 Color Paddle reminder
This is just a reminder that the Fall Color Paddle is still on for Saturday October 6, 2012. The starting place will be Water Works Park in Holly, 690 S. Broad Street. Boats will start down the river at 1:00. Registration will start at 12:00. You may rent a kayak or Canoe from Heavener's Canoe Rental on site, but it would be best if you called them and reserved a boat if you want to be sure to have what you want, 248-685-2379. If you want Heavener's to bring your boat from the end of the paddle at Strom Park, back to Water Works Park in Holly, there is a $5.00 charge. Otherwise, there is no charge for the event. Donations are appreciated and memberships are available.
Please dress appropriately for the weather. Depending upon your skill and where you guide your boat, you may get stuck and need to get out to push your boat back into deeper water. Wear appropriate foot wear for that. There
will be people in the water to help you through the railroad tubes on the river. There will be a notch cut through the beaver dam ( something you don't usually see in this part of Michigan), to make it easy to go through. You might see a beaver or two in that stretch of the river near the beaver lodge or dam. We have seen deer, sand hill cranes, blue herons and kingfishers recently along this stretch. We will have a tow boat in the Fenton Mill pond should you be tired and want assistance crossing the pond. There is no charge for that service.
The trees are turning color, so it should be a beautiful fall paddle. Hot cocoa will be served at the takeout. Come out and have fun. It will be our last river event for the year.
