Although the FT897 will allow you to enter all the required data for your memory channels, there are some very simple but effective pieces of software to make this job very simple at minimal cost. For one of them simply click on this URL:
or paste it into your browser. The software you are interested in is called "FT Basic MMO" and it cost £10, it is well worth the cost.
You can set up as many of the 200 memory channels on the FT897D as you like with the antenna frequency, mode, type of tone CTCSS/DCS, the tone frequency, transmit and/or Receive tone encodeing, repeater offset, simplex of split frequency and a label displayed on the FT897 of either the antenna frequency used or an eight letter ID of your own.
This list of channels is stored firstly on your computer and then, when you are happy with the results uploaded to the FT897. (as well as a number of other transceivers)
You can organise groups of channels into various lists for specific jobs such as:
1. VHF, UHF and HF Beacon frequencies.
2. Local repeater frequencies.
3. Remote repeater frequencies for trips.
4. Groups of 5 split channel Satelite frequencies for FM LEO use.
5. Groups of 18 split channel Satelite frequencies for SSB/CW LEO use.
These can be uploaded when needed or combined and used in one large group.
The software will allow you to move the channels up or down the lists to suit your requirements.
I hope this helps you.
