Greetings to all on Darkmoor's mailing list,
The "Shell Game" plot has grown to encompass seven players and has involved more than a dozen characters, which is really awesome, and it is building to a very tense and challenging climax. However, getting all of our players together for the next few scenes will be a challenge in and of itself, so we need to work out a good time where we can all get together and play out the next scenes, and there aren't many scenes left.
Here are the days and times I would like to meet:
Thursday the 12th at 9pm EST
Friday the 13th at 10pm EST
Sunday the 15th at 7pm EST
Here are the players and characters involved:
Powin Lady Powin, Sir Eion, Merci, Esther
Pascal - Schalla
Baily - Drake
Ayden - Kristopher
Larkin - Larkin
Me Emeric, Armod, Zcy'vrehn, Klescversene, Millstown, and Treyevtalak
So, could each of the players listed above please send me an e-mail (veyanne@...
) telling me which days and times work for you? If none of those days and times fit for you, please tell me what days and times would work. Hopefully we can find a day and time that works for everyone.
I don't want to run any scenes without all of the characters involved, but we might have to drop a character or two if we can't get everyone organized. That would be a shame. Also, if this week doesn't work out we can try next week too and maybe the week after for a good common meeting time, but I'd like to get things resolved fairly soon since the characters involved are kind of frozen in time. Let's not leave our fellow players hanging too long.
So, what will we do when we get everyone together? Currently, Lady Powin, Halivan, Schalla, Drake, Armod, Emeric, Margery, and a few Millstown guards are in possession of the dragon's egg at a house just inside the Millstown border. The Milltown council has just awarded the egg to Emeric on the condition that he gives it to Lady Powin in trade. The group knows that Treyevtalak is nearby but don't know when she will come back to Millstown. Lady Powin has just sent Sir Eion and Merci to seek the Ledge Council of Dragons, tell them what's going on, and ask them for help.
So, to start the scene we need Powin, Riddy, Pascal, Baily, and me. There will be a few things to talk about and the big decision about how to deal with Treyevtalak and her egg will begin (Do they fight? Concede? Negotiate? Run?), but first the group will need some vital pieces of information which are on their way to Millstown...
At some point Kristopher and Larkin will join this group bringing news from Darkmoor about Treyevtalak. We'll need to have both Ayden and Larkin present for that.
Then later, Sir Eion and Merci will return along with Klescversene, a Ledge Council silver dragon. They will stir the pot with more added information about what is going on.
Then a big decision will need to be made: what to do about a very angry and very powerful red dragon and what to do with her egg. I hope that this decision will involve a rather lively discussion between the characters involved. It is quite possibly a matter of life and death for the characters and part of Millstown with the potential for war to break out if things get out of hand. It can't get much more serious so please, speak up and be heard.
I think that we can fit all of the above stuff into one session. It would be even better if we could go farther and hopefully set up the climactic scene. I think that the climactic scene will require another session all to itself. That one will be a must for attendance.
By the way, if a fight happens, and that's no guarantee, I in no way will try to kill off anyone's characters. It's your decision what happens to them. You will have final say, period. The way I see it, if there is a fight and the odds are even or against the characters, then victory can only be had with some kind of sacrifice like deaths or serious injuries or significant losses of some kind. If it comes to that let's work to make such sacrifices noble and the moment epic, and hopefully make the scene so rewarding that we'll be proud of it and remember it for some time to come.
And yes, even though we are near the end, there is still room to bring in new characters. If there is to be a fight with a dragon we could use some knights, sorcerers, priests, and anyone else who could help out. Please make sure that these characters are of a moderate power level, someone no more powerful than a veteran knight of the realm and a step below Lady Powin. Whatever comes it should be a challenge for everyone involved.
Now, here is the big news around Darkmoor Manor
One of Darkmoor's many Nabolian guards would have this to say...
"It was Treyevtalak alright, the largest red dragon that I've ever seen, and circling over Darkmoor with hate in her eyes. She burned a message in letters three feet high outside the star wall demanding her egg back along with the one who took it. You bet I was scared. We didn't have Emeric or the egg to give to the dragon so for while we thought that she was going to take a run at our wards. We knew that we had to stall, but who comes up to do the negotiation? A couple of kids. Yeah, one was this gangly teen named Larkin, and the other was young Kristopher. Didn't they only squire him a couple of days ago? Already he thinks he's a knight saving the realm."
"But Kristopher knew dragons alright, especially how to talk with the angry ones, and he managed to talk her down to the dragon meadow. And Kris had oil of some kind that would keep the dragon from eating him or so he said. Well, Kris and Larkin start rubbing it all over themselves and then they go riding out to the meadow to talk to the dragon face to face. That's braver than me and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I guess that the oil worked because the two are still alive. But yeah, they talked that massive, angry mother dragon into waiting, at least until dawn from what I understand. Treyevtalak's in the meadow right now and Esther is healing her."
"So Kris and Larkin have to take a message to Lady Powin, telling her to hurry up and get the egg home as fast as they can. But where did she go? No one knows for sure. So who comes to the rescue now? That gangly kid. Yeah, Larkin can turn into a wolf. So he picks up the scent of Lady Powin's horses and off he and Kristopher go. I'll tell you, those two kids are brave and resourceful and full of spunk, and that tells me that Darkmoor has a bright future ahead of it."
I hope that everyone's had fun so far and I'm trying to make it interesting and exciting for each one of you. All the pieces are finally coming together and the puzzle is looking wonderful. So let's dig deep and finish strong. The biggest moments are yet to come.
