US: Millions for Defense (to Media)
Washington, Dec 1 (Prensa Latina) The US military is paying out
multi-millions (in tax dollars) to payoff Iraqi journalists and plant
paid propaganda in Iraqi news media to combat the growing
anti-occupation sentiment in the Arab press.
This disclosure in Thursday´s New York Times, based on statements by
military contractors and officials on condition of anonymity, comes
on the heels of the revelation that the US president wanted to bomb
the well-known Qatari Al-Jazeera network.
Far from being the heartfelt opinion of Iraqi writers, many of the
stories are written by US troops, translated into Arabic by the
Washington-based Lincoln Group, and planted in Iraqi newspapers
without revealing the Pentagon role, the influential daily reported.
