Cuban Parliament for Next Legislature to be Constituted on Sunday
HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 23 (acn) The National Assembly of the People’s Power (ANPP), corresponding to the eighth legislature, will be constituted on Sunday in this capital, for a five-year term.
Met at Havana’s Convention Center, its 612 deputies, elected by the people in the February 3 elections, will officially take office at the supreme legislative organ, and next will elect the president, vice-president and secretary of this organ.
In a subsequent action, and always according to what is established by the Cuban electoral system, the legislative body will proceed to elect the Council of State, top governmental organ of the island.
The Constitution establishes the carrying out of general elections every five years to elect the deputies to the ANPP and the delegates to provincial assemblies, and partial elections every two and a half years to vote for delegates to constituencies, which will form municipal authorities.
