Researchers for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology at Ithaca, NY investigated the wintering habitats of juncos from 1998-2001 in the U.S. East and Midwest and in southeast Canada. The researchers said that juncos were found to be wintering further north in later years. The Cornell study is quoted in a report published in Wild Ones Journal (Apr/May 2003), included as photo images in this article and also found in the website at the link shown below. I'd be interested to learn if anyone has more recent data on junco wintering habits.
