Spring 2007 Biodiesel America Newsletter
subscribe/unsubscribe info at bottom
This Spring Newsletter is full of new ways you can get involved in biodiesel. From getting a deep discount on ‘Biodiesel America,’ (our flagship book), to being involved in our national speaking tour, to working with biodiesel in New Orleans, to getting your photo in the movie, to new investment opportunities, we have something biodiesel-related for just about everyone.
Let me let you in on some of the juicy things in the paragraphs that follow... First, I’ll tell you how you can get your photo into an upcoming movie that I’m working on that will be in theaters next year. (You always wanted to be in Hollywood , right?) Next, you’ll learn how you can save over 30% off the cover price of ‘Biodiesel America ’ through our Earth Day Special. I’ll also tell you about an amazing investment opportunity with biodiesel and how you can get me to your town this year to speak and inspire your community to embrace biodiesel. There’s lots more, just keep scrolling.
Here’s a quick personal update from me. I’ve been busily working during the past few months on making our upcoming hit documentary even better. For those of you not familiar with the documentary, tentatively titled ‘Fields of Fuel,’ the movie is a straight shooting, tongue-in-cheek romp through the underbelly of America’s energy policies contrasted with an uplifting look at the biodiesel movement. The film is aimed at the same market as Al Gore’s ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ and it will be in theaters next year. We are starting to plan the release as well as next year’s film tour and you and your company can be involved in the movie (you can even get your photo into it)! There are more details below.
Lastly, I want to wish each and every one of you a pleasant spring and a very happy April 22nd Earth Day. Let us all be whoever we have to be, do whatever we have to do and make whatever changes needed to have this be a landmark year in the shift toward sustainability for our country and the planet as a whole!

#1 – GET YOUR PHOTO IN THE MOVIES!
Have you always wanted to be in movies??? Do you drive, pilot, fly or operate a biodiesel-powered vehicle or engine and want to help the biodiesel movement by showing it off??? Now’s your chance! There’s a section of my movie with a montage of people using biodiesel in all sorts of vehicles and machines and we want to put YOUR photo IN THE MOVIE! Here’s how:
1. Get a hi-res camera (4 megapixels or more)
2. Schedule a time to take the photo in the early morning – before 9am – or the late afternoon – after 4pm.
3. Get yourself, your family (if it’s a family car) or your employees (if it’s a company vehicle) in front of the vehicle
4. THIS ONE’S IMPORTANT - Make sure the sun is BEHIND the person taking the photo and that the photographer is not shadowing the subjects. We can’t use photos where the sun is shining into the camera or the subjects are in shadow.
5. Take off your sunglasses and SMILE! Photos where we can see your eyes and your big smile are much nicer and work better for the section we are making.
6. Get as much of your vehicle as possible in the shot. Remember, this movie is going to be on a big screen.
7. Be creative. We’re looking for great photos of people with biodiesel company cars in front of their businesses, photos of families, photos of pets with cars, photos of kids with cars, photos with people holding signs for biodiesel or against the war, photos of workers with construction equipment, or people in front of generators. Anything that shows your personality and your biodiesel-powered machine can work.
8. Email us the photo to photos@....
Please be aware that all photos sent to us become our exclusive property and we are not obligated to use the photo if it does not work for us. If we like the photo, we’ll follow up with you and ask you to sign a photo release and YOU WIILL BE ABLE TO SAY YOU FINALLY MADE IT INTO THE MOVIES!!!

#3 - BIODIESEL AMERICA SPEAKING TOUR BEGINS
Do you want to move, touch and inspire your school, community, business, college or organization to embrace biodiesel? Do you want to have a biodiesel breakthrough for your area? Then consider booking me for my new speaking tour, “Biodiesel America ! Change Your Fuel, Change the Country.”
My organization, Biodiesel America , is committed to our presentations generating measurable results for the groups that hire us. Here’s how it works: as the host of the presentation, you create a list of intended objectives and outcomes. My staff then works closely with you to ensure you have the right media and the guests. We then craft a presentation that will accomplish your objectives and meet your goals.
Here are a couple of quotes from event planners and attendees:
“Josh came to Marlborough School yesterday and was: Brilliant. Amazing. Informative. Entertaining. Charming. Accessible. He held the attention of 600, 13-17 year old girls - no small task. And he laid out the issues around Biodiesel alternative energy in accessible terms and entertaining ones. My daughter was lauded by her peers for bringing Josh to school. He could have sold rock posters of himself as well as the books he brought. I'm indebted to you for helping make this happen.”
Harry Winer, Film Director & Parent, Los Angeles , CA
“Your skillful presentation provided for positive responses and experiences. Your talk was applauded by our audience with words like "hopeful", "enlightening", "farsighted,” and not to forget my favorite - "After a long day at work I found it uplifting, funny, energetic, and most enjoyable.” Your ability to explain over a decade of effort and research in a one-hour presentation is a testament to your abilities. You possess talents found among the highest caliber professionals.”
Joseph Pavicic, President/CEO, Liquid Renewable Fuels, Inc, St. Paul , MN

#7 - HELP THE NEW ORLEANS BIODIESEL BUS PROJECT
If you’ve traveled to my home city of New Orleans recently and ventured outside of the tourist areas, you might have been shocked by how little progress has been made rebuilding the physical and social infrastructure of the city. In an effort to better life there and to continue the important work of spreading green energy, we have been working with Biodiesel Solutions, makers of the FuelMeister, and The Alliance for Affordable Energy, a New-Orleans based non-profit organization dedicated to bringing energy efficiency and green energy to Louisiana , to begin a biodiesel school bus project. I’m happy to say the project is underway and the first bus will be filling up with a 20% blend of biodiesel (B20) within the week! You can help continue and expand the New Orleans Biodiesel Bus Project. The project needs a diesel truck, a trailer, methanol, lye and an influx of cash. All donations are tax deductible. I invite you to give and to give heartily. It’s this kind of grassroots work that makes a difference and makes green energy catch on everywhere. And you make the difference in ensuring that it happens.
To give or for more information, contact Micah Walker Parkin at mwalker@... or call 504-208-9761.

#8 – BIODIESEL INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY
I am working with a member of our biodiesel community on a very exciting piece of technology he is commercializing. My research shows there is nothing else like it in the market, nor is anything like it in the works. I’m so excited about the potential of this technology to bring biodiesel to communities everywhere I asked if I could help raise money for it. And, I committed to raising $1 Million for this new venture. It’s not a public company so the placement is private and it’s very limited. Investments begin at $50K.
If you’re a qualified investor (i.e. You have over $1M in liquid assets) and want to get in on something that I believe will be both profitable and beneficial for the planet, let me know by emailing office@...
#9 – FROM THE FRYER v2.0 COMING!
Biodiesel Smarter Magazine http://www.biodieselsmarter.com/, a magazine by and for biodiesel making enthusiasts, recently interviewed me and when the article came out, they literally begged me to discontinue From the Fryer to the Fuel Tank. Well, I listened. While the stock of FTFTTFT books won’t run out until later this year, it is certainly time to update the book that many credit as helping to start the home brew movement. The good news – you can help write From the Fryer v2.0! Much of the book will be contributions from YOU - the amazing people in our international biodiesel community. We are in the process of establishing a very cool system of contributing to, and writing for, FTFTTFT v2.0.
Meanwhile, if you’re interested in putting your name in print, let us know so we can keep you in the loop by emailing us at office@...
#10 – LET’S CONNECT ON MYSPACE, LINKEDIN & ZAADZ
I finally got off my “hey I already have a web site so why would I need online community pages” high horse and I got a MySpace page, a LinkedIn page and a Zaadz page. I must admit, these online communities are great ways to meet new people and connect with old friends. If you’re a member of one of these communities (or two or all of them), let’s connect. If you’re not familiar with these networks or have heard about them in passing, here’s my take on what they offer:
1. MySpace is an online friend network and meeting place. It caters to a young crowd but I’ve gotten plenty of benefit from finding long lost-classmates to connecting with members of my local biodiesel community. If you’re on MySpace and you want to email me biodiesel questions please, please POST THEM IN MY COMMENTS SECTION and I will reply in my BLOG – this way everyone can see the question and answer.
2. LikedIn is a professional network where you can find people who do anything from rare Italian tile work to designing orbital satellites – and then you can rate them and see who they do business with. I’d recommend those of you with a biodiesel or biodiesel-related business to get on LikedIn and connect with me ASAP.
3. Last but not least is Zaadz. The weird name comes from the word “seeds” in Dutch. Zaadz’s philosophy is to generate social change through connecting like-minded individuals. The site has a more “new-age” flavor. So if you’re like me, and you’re into meditation, yoga and organic food, join me on Zaadz.
Following are my links, come ‘on down and let’s connect:
