Not sure if everyone gets the LC Bates newsletter, but they have some
really fun activities scheduled for this month. I'm hoping to go check out

January Activities at L.C.Bates Museum
The L.C. Bates museum has planned some engaging family activities for
January including a Star Party and special programs to celebrate National
Squirrel Day and Penguin Awareness Day. Come join the fun and explore our
On Monday, January 16, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the museum will be open

Friday, January 20th is Penguin Awareness Day! Come to the museum between
3-4:30 PM to learn all about penguins and make a penguin craft! Learn how

For Saturday, January 21, National Squirrel Appreciation Day, at 1PM visit
the L.C. Bates Museum to learn about one of the most encountered backyard
animals, squirrels. Grey Squirrels, Red Squirrels, and Flying Squirrels are
all found in our Maine woods. We will look at squirrel tracks, scat, teeth,
and more to learn about our furry, nut-gathering friends and make a

On Friday, January 27, 2012 from 6 to 9 PM the museum will host Star Party.
Murray Campbell, a former professor of astronomy and physics at Colby
college, will be on hand to help us view Jupiter, the Pleiades, the Orion
nebula and the Moon through telescopes. Visitors are invited to bring
binoculars as well. If it snows and the roads are unsafe the program will
be held on February 3. The location of the program will be near Prescott
Building just north of the museum. Dress warmly. Hot drinks and cookies
will be provided.
