Probably everyone has heard of Italy's massive blackout on Saturday-Sunday.
What many people might not have been aware of was that Saturday night in
Rome was supposed to be a 'White Night', which in Italian translates as a
sleepless night, with of course overtones of Leningrad's White Nights. Rome
has a very progressive & hip mayor who's doing wonders to turn the city
back into a living entity. Saturday night, the White Night, was planned to
have everyone out on the streets all night. All streets closed to private
car traffic. Free public transportation. Free entry to all museums.
Restaurants and shops open all night, a take-back-the-city kind of
initiative. It's a marvellous idea. Pity the blackout ruined it. Best,
