Job Summary/Basic Function:
Summary: The chosen candidate will be an innovative, energetic educator who will teach courses in poetry as well as recent world literature, college composition and other writing courses to serve our writing and communication studies areas, such as creative writing or journalism.
Teach courses in the Humanities Department.
Prepare and deliver lectures to undergraduate students on topics such as poetry, journalism, literature and creative writing.
Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and papers.
Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
Assist students who need extra help with their coursework outside of class.
Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
Serve on various committees of the College.
Participate in academic advising of undergraduate students.
Engage in other service to the College as requested.
PhD in literary studies, English or directly related.
A minimum of two years of related teaching experience at the undergraduate level, including experience teaching poetry.
Graduate coursework or research in poetry, or demonstrated in-depth knowledge of poetry.
Demonstrated success as a writer, through national or international publication, receipt of national or international awards in writing, or similar accomplishments.
