While enjoying a Saturday lunch of Austrian bratwurst, at a restaurant on the
South Shore of Cuyamaca Lake in San Diego County, I spotted one darkish
soaring raptor over the lake, which flew with noticeable dihedral at the wingtips.
As I had only my 10x with me, I could make out that the beak was not the red
of a Turkey vulture. It did not have the dark leading edge wing coloration of
a Red-tailed Hawk.
Has anyone else this season spotted a Golden Eagle in this location? For the
moment, I think that's the most likely ID, but, having not spotted one
anywhere previously, I'd at least like confirmation regarding habitat/season.
