The Lower Columbia Audubon Society in conjunction with Columbia Feed in Pasco recently had their annual bird seed sale. Armed with their pricing sheet I went looking for the best prices for bird seed in the Yakima Area. I was thrilled, once again, to find those best prices at a local, family owned feed store in Selah, Wenas Feed and Rental. They are located at 1200 N Wenas Rd, Selah, WA. Tel: 509-697-8725. I talked with Bonnie and Brian and they approved sharing their price list to readers of BirdYak. Here goes:50 # Wild Bird seed $21.4940# Blackoil $30.0050# Cracked corn $12.7550# Scratch $15.8050# Nyjer $55.00 Buy three or more bags and the price is $47.00I have purchased seed from them for years and have always been very pleased with the quality. Give them a call if you want quantities great than one or two bags to be sure they have the seed on hand or can order for you.The millet seed shortage this year was evident in the cost of $46.95 for a 50# bag at Columbia Feed in Pasco. WOW! Looks like millet is the white Nyjer in bird seed.I hope this will help those of you who purchase bird seed to get the most for your investment in winter viewing.BevSelahHi Yakkers,
I spent some time at the arboretum bird blind today replacing hinges on some of the slats and filling the can with bird seed. We just need the birds to show up now. If you stop by the blind, please feel free to scatter some seed. Be sure to scatter it near the bushes and brush pile instead of out in the middle.
Our brush pile disappeared. I found branches nearby and started re- building it. It needs more branches, if you feel like scouting around th eimmediate area for some.
I picked up bird seed at the Yakima Co-op on my way to the arboretum. It is $35 a bag and has quite a lot of cracked corn and much less millet that in past years. Both were probably caused by the drought in the Midwest. If anyone has found a better source, please let us know.
