I have considered hiking in sandles and even go barefoot quite a
bit in the yard to toughen up feet. However in the woods on and off
trail I am nervous even in my low top new balance shoes with shorts.
The snakes around these parts do not watch the Crok Hunter so they
don't know how to behave. I have already encountered a large timber
rattler, a spreading adder, and several black racers on my daily
walks. I tried to catch the nonposionus snakes and I guess they could
sense my nerviousnes. The rattler was in the trail and made no offer
to give me the right-of-way. I killed it. One of the black racers was
just off the trail under some brush and struck at my trecking pole as
I went by. After jumping about 20 feet I recovered and tried to catch
it. It kept striking so I gave up and left it alone. I would not feel
to comfortable tromping around in sandles.
