Mazal tov, mazal tov to Akim! My lord husband has been offered his dream job!
Look at all these great advantages:
The pay increase is only slight, to begin, but we are assured that his value will be recognized (in practical terms) at regular intervals. The work will be challenging and exciting, enabling him to be creative and to grow and learn even more than he currently gets to do -- for a living, rather than as a hobby. The company is one which he's known and respected for quite some time, and he'll be filling a niche that he is uniquely suited to fill. There will be travel to conventions that he's always wanted to attend, and they'll be work-related and the company will actually pay him to go, so he won't have to take vacation days.
And the disadvantage:
It's in California.
Not that California isn't a lovely place. I've enjoyed pretty much every moment I've spent there over the years, visiting relatives and such on Akim's side. And I'm sure that the Kingdom of Caid is, in its Caidi ways, just as wonderful as the Midrealm has been, and will be filled with another set of amazing people that we'll get to know and come to respect and like just as much as we already respect and like all of you. But… but you're here, and not there. So depending on what our landlord tells us -- if we can break the lease and go out there around October, or have to wait here until April while Akim works remotely for a few months -- we may be leaving before we get another chance at a Simple Day, or Lilies (which we've never yet attended), or Gulf Wars near my family, or a reasonable hope of attending Pennsic.
What are the protocols for moving to a new kingdom? Is there anyone we should inform for the sake of official records? Neither of us holds office here, so at least that worry is not on our shoulders, but do we need to ask to be removed from the populace count, or added to the Caidan populace rolls? (For that matter, what IS the… Caidi? Caidan? Caidese? Caidicues? And do you pronounce it KAYD or ka-YEED or KYDE or…?)
Bottom line: We are very much going to miss Tree-Girt-Sea, Ayreton, the Midlands, and the Middle Kingdom suspended between earth and heaven and between Calontir, Meridies, Ealdormere, Atlantia, East, and Artemisia. It's really only a matter of how soon the missing will start.
