Bonjour Rand !
Thank you very much for the informations and the link concerning the Mandara Mountains. Wow : more than 70 communities in such a small area - gives me ideas for the next holidays !
I like carved doors, wherever they come from, for their main symbolism (passage from one 'world' to another - which can also be initiation) but it's also a sort of shield to protect a home, a naos /religious/mystery place, a granary or a palace.
I like to listen to the Doors, too.
Be well !

Thanks for sharing the objects with everyone.
I especially liked the door (gift # 3) and the geometric patterns on it, very nice! I also hope that it will open up to a Happy NEw Year for you.
As for the elephant hide shield, it comes from the areas that I know little to nothing about. I did however find a website dedicated to Mandara Mountains that is very educational and interesting. There are quite a few ethnic groups in the area and the link below lists them all and also gives some background information on each group.

Bonjour, Rand !
For this New Year, we received 3
gifts from ourselves. Sort of flat gifts.
Here is the first one : a shield made of elephant-hide coming from the Mandara Mountains (104 x 52cm).
I'm still not sure if I should identify it as Mofu, Wandala or Marghi. Any clue ?
Photos of this object can be found in the PHOTOS section of the group:
