I hope this message finds everyone in good spirits.
I wanted to send an email out to warn people of an email that is circulating and has reached me tonight. It comes from an email address wonjadaniel@...
The message in the email states:
I'm a provider of african masks base in Cameroon and i've sent to you my collection .hope that you will be interest.
price and size down the picture "
A snapshot of the message can be found at the bottom of this message.
It invites you to view a group of masks in an online photo page on Yahoo. When you open up the page it gives a wide range of masks for sale and when you open an image it gives you dimensions and prices. He screwed up because he lists
almost everything at 15 or 20 euros.
The masks in the photos are masks from various online galleries, quite a few of them from the Hamill Gallery. He states that he is a provider of masks from Cameroon and says these masks are in his collection and is attempting to sell them to people he sends these emails to.
I looked at quite a few of the masks on his page that I knew were from the Hamill Gallery's website and compared them side by side and they are the same so I would assume that all of the masks are ones that he found at various online galleries.
IT IS A SCAM, please beware if you get messages like this.
This particular message is the 2nd one of this type that I have received in the past few months.
The other message took photos directly off of Zyama.com and said they were all pieces in his collection that he would like to donate to me as long
as I agreed never to sell them. I would only have to pay for shipping and packing. I confronted this person and he got incredibly defensive and kept telling me that the objects were his and how dare I accuse him of trying to scam me.
The message I received tonight I am going to play along with and let him think that he found a bite and see how far I can take it before I call him on it.
Unfortunately I don't know of any type of International agency that can intervene in these types of situations with this type of potential scam. If anyone has any recommendations I will pursue it.
