I have come across two other resources relating to Gogo people and culture. Firstly, there is an English translation (from Swahili) of Matthias E. Mnyampala's 1954 book The Gogo: History, Customs and Traditions (London and Armonk, NY: M.E. Sharpe, Inc. 1995). The translator of this work, Gregory H. Maddox of Texas Southern University, has also written a book called Practicing History in Central Tanzania: Writing, Memory and Performance (Portsmouth, NH: Heinemann, 2006.) in which Maddox analyzes the seven-volume history -- "clan histories, biographies, accounts of important events, and descriptions of customs and traditions..." of the Gogo -- scribed by Ernest M. Kongola.
