Dear Friends: As you know I am an advocate for rumble strips and other forms
of "traffic calming." We have got to use every tool at our command to slow
speeders who would like to zoom through our neighborhoods.
Now I know that rumble strips will not stop the determined speeder. But for
the conscientious driver going over these strips calls them to attention, and
sends a signal that there is a reason to slow down.
I pressed with the neighborhood for rumble strips on Columbia Road (perhaps
the only example of these on a collector or major street in DC). Along with a
stop sign, they make for a safer walk to Kalorama Park.
Now I am pleased to tell you the same will be the case at on Adams Mill Road
at Walter Pierce Park. I had requested this in a letter some months ago, and
have since reminded DPW of the need for this action. I am told by DPW the
strips are going to be installed today. I am watching to be sure it happens.
