From George Brauckman, GPIA's Beautification Chair:
On Wednesday evening, July 30th, a group of neighbors met at the top
of the Crestmoore Place Steps in Glassell Park to form The Friends
of the Crestmoore Place Steps (FOTCPS). The Steps have been a
constant eyesore and irritation for the neighbors, but that is about
to change. The Friends of the Crestmoore Place steps is going to
work to make the most of the $10,000 Neighborhood Matching Fund
Grant obtained by the Glassell Park Improvement Association (GPIA)
and meet regularly to strategize about ways to keep the steps
graffiti-free, routinely cleaned and maintained.
Also in attendance with the neighbors were Mitch O'Farrell, Field
Deputy for CD 13; Tony Scudellari, GPIA President, George Brauckman;
GPIA Beautification Chair & Crestmoore Steps Project Manager; Miriam
Escobar with her family on behalf of the neighborhood and Anahuak
Soccer; Milton Merino from Aztec Fire Crew and community activist
(and all-around good guy) Edel Vera.
On Saturday, August 9th the GPIA and Council District 13 (Eric
Garcetti) are sponsoring a community clean up (9:00 am) and a block
party (12:00 pm). You are invited to come help with the clean up
and attend the block party and to hear from Councilmembers Eric
Garcetti and Antonio Villaraigosa, tour the beautiful brand new
Child Care Center, and find out more about this exciting project!
