Thanks to Yitzhak for the reminder. The Dan details may be found at http://teldan.wordpress.com/.
I do plan to continue the excavation of Area A this season. I would like to determine the
parameters of the extramural buildings (Biran's so-called huzzot), which are particularly
interesting given their proximity to the gateway. These structures may exist at other sites
(I excavated an extramural complex at Hazeva in 1994; then there is Aroer, etc.), but the
extramurals are generally lesser priorities for most excavators.
There is still a substantial amount of constructional fill associated with the Outer Gate (in
which the HOD stela fragments were deposited). I don't want to get anyone excited, but do
keep your fingers crossed this summer.
It is my understanding that the impetus for digging Area A was the need of the Parks
Authority to build the new footpath approach to the reconstructed gate. This was not
exactly a salvage excavation, but there are unexcavated areas, as well as areas that one
might call underexcavated.
