Newsday, one of the nation's largest daily newspapers, serving Long Island, New York, through its print editions and its web site Newsday.com, is looking for an assistant editor.
This person must have excellent news judgment and will be responsible for editing print and online stories for spelling, grammar, readability and Newsday style. Assistant editors must raise substantive questions about focus, structure, organization, tone, and legal and ethical issues. They must write accurate, engaging headlines for print and online. And they must be comfortable proofreading and editing completed pages, graphics and online projects. A minimum of at least three years copy editing experience is required.
The assistant editor may be asked to lay out basic pages or work in slot.
