Subject: 640,000 LAUSD Students Need Your Help - Act Now! Date: Wed, 3 Oct 2012 17:09:07 +0000 From: Beth Doctor <admin@...> Reply-To: admin@... To: Marcie Booth <MandMBooth@...>
On Tuesday, October 9th, LAUSD School Board member Steve Zimmer is introducing a resolution that will hamper the district's ability to identify and support great teachers. This resolution ultimately undermines LAUSD’s teacher effectiveness pilot program by rejecting the use of Academic Growth over Time (AGT), the only measurement in the evaluation that uses student growth measures to inform teachers of their performance.
StudentsFirst members just like you have emailed, called, and met with Mr. Zimmer to explain the importance of including AGT as part of a robust teacher evaluation that makes sense for teachers, parents and, most importantly, the 640,000 students attending LAUSD schools.
Tell the LA School Board Members that our education policies must be in the best interest of our kids!
When we began our work in California, the message from our members was clear. We must ensure EVERY child in EVERY classroom has a great teacher. But in order to develop an excellent teaching force, we must have a strong evaluation system in place that includes measures of student learning, so we can reward excellent teachers and support educators who need improvement.
We need your help to send a strong message to LAUSD School Board members that this resolution is a step backwards, and would stand in the way of the important reforms we need.
Please contact your school board members today. Tell them that we must work for reform in Los Angeles with a strong teacher evaluation system that ensures every student has a great teacher. Just click the link below:
Thank you for being a part of this important movement in California.
