I do these myself as I know how, but at JoAnn Fabrics or Wal Mart or almost any store with a craft section you can a get a kids knitting or crocheting kit. This kit comes with everything the beginner needs to make something. (a scarf I think) Then as she gets better you can get more advanced patterns for free at the same stores if you look by the fabric cutting table, some hang them on the shelves and they are absolutely free. You just get the ones she (or you) wants to make and the yarn and right size needles or hook and let her go.
Betty Crocker has a wonderful book for beginner cooking. It is just like the regular one only it is for children with recipes they like. You can find it at Walden Books or any book store. You might try Amazon or some other online book store too.
