It only seems like a challenge!
Zone 4 is a rather loose title for our group--most of us have a 100-day frost-free season, but some of us are closer to Zone 3, while a few are down in the warm climes of Zone 5. We are stretched across the northern part of the globe, from western USA and Canada over to Norway. Our interests are many and varied. Some of us have a simple border of annuals around the mailbox, while others are developing larger estates and farms. No matter what kind of gardening you're doing, you can find good advice from people experienced in gardening in a cold climate. This is also a good list for general garden chat, so don't be shy if you want to brag about your beds!
Because the surest way to a successful garden is to develop the finest soil possible, we prefer not to discuss the use of chemicals, which can harm the soil in the long run.
With our short growing season, we need all the knowledge and skill we can attain to be the best gardeners possible. But once you've learned to garden well in Zone 4, you're among the finest gardeners in the world!
When you join our list, you also have access to the many messages in our searchable archives, comprising a wealth of gardening information for our climate.
