Not really. The 5-3/4" (145mm) is the radius so 2x. is 11-1/2". The track is
1/4" between the rails but 7/16 across the ties (call it a 1/2") so now it is
12". When you run trains, especially on the curves, the loco and rolling stock
will easily exceed this.

The attaché and Kibri type layouts use that same radius to make their
over/under double oval. Most everything will run on it, even the steam locos.
But it looks funny.

Folks,

Somebody asked about the era of the harbor tug that I have plans for. It is
modern, looks like most modern harbor tugs except it does not have the usual
twin exhaust stacks. Think the exhaust is vented through the hull. It wouldn't
be hard to add vertical exhaust stacks.

If you build into a case, put it on the lower profile lid (upside down case).
This allows for much better visual, instead of looking down inside.  Similar to
Nathan's comment.

In any case*cough* I would still hinge the baseboard so it can be lifted

I have been testing the new Rokuhan curved turnout R195 mm to R 220
mm, R026 and R027, wood tie, R57 R58 for Precast concrete ties. They
come set up for power routing, but as with other Rokuhan turnouts it
can be converted to non power routing by inserting two screw in the
bottom plate as shown in their instruction sheet with the screws
supplied. Rokuhan states that the only engine that does not work on
this turnout is the Tenshodo C52 (Hudson). I found that the Hudson
will transit from small radius to larger radius fine but does not like
going the other way. IN Nn3 My K27 and K28 operate fine through these
turnouts, In fact I did not find anything in my stable of Z and Nn3
that would not run through this turnout . They are available in Japan
now and should be available in North America in late April or early
May. Somebody else will have to comment on Big Boys and Challengers
and GS4's in Z.

best regards Garth

Garth,

Thank you very much for your Rokuhan updates. Reliable curved turnouts will
be an important addition to Z scale. It's too bad the tie spacing is European
instead of N. American, but it seems ideal for the Nn3 railroaders. And, on a Z
scale layout that is a small price to pay for reliable running.

Hi Dave,

I have no doubt that it should be offered in that scale (N).
We will have to estimate some of the costs very carefully
as to practicality. Diesels rule the model train world these days!

Thanks for the question.

This looks terrific! Do you have an estimated price on this yet?

Hi Melissa,

Metals are essential to building some complex
models - plastic would have looked lumpy... and wood?

Even though stainless steel is tough to extract out of the kits,
it certainly forms well when it comes to intricate detail.
And it is very durable. These models will be around a
long, long time ;>)

Thanks for your appreciation.

Awesome. I'll have to see if I have the vertical to stack my show modules. How
tall will it be?

N scale also for me, 3 locations.

Hi Jeff,
Facilities like these often carry the following warning:

DANGER - PELIGRO
Diesel Locomotive Service Only.
Do not haul stack container cars or other
high, tall freight along these service tracks.

Se trata de un centro de servicio locomotora diesel.
No transportar coches de pila de contenedores u otros
coches de alta, fletes altos a lo largo de estas vías de servicio.

So if you do use these items do not run stack container cars
on the service tracks.

N scale maybe. The price would have to be 35% to 40%
higher than Z scale. N scale is bigger in all three dimensions:
X, Y & Z axis.

Best regards,
Reynard

Hah, funny! But do need the approx vertical dimensions (inches) to be sure it
will fit under the other module when stored.

Hi Jeff,
Yeah, even as I was copying this stuff
over for a reply, I knew it did not answer your real question
but I sent it anyway just for grins ;>)

The height from foundation (i.e. sitting on my granite surface table)
to the tippy-top of the sand towers is 2.5775 ±.010 inches
or 65.47 mm as measured using a Mitutoyo
Absolute Digimatic caliper.

You should add at least .500" or 12.70 mm to that
just to make sure you don't bang it on the bottom
of your overhead stacked modules.

Hope that answers your real question.
Sometimes making jokes gets me trouble...

As for N scale - I have no idea yet as I have not
yet decided on making it for that scale (market verses price
verses manufacturing costs plus advertising).
However, more N requests are welcome and will definitely
effect the outcome...

Reynard

Perfect. That will fit by ~1/2" ('above' your added 1/2" fudge factor.

Subject: Marklin F7 Spares Issue - wheel set (treibradsatz) part number?
zscalehobo
Send Email Send Email

A customer asked me to revive 5 of his Marklin F7's diesel locomotives that were
running very poorly after sitting for 10+ years.

He has one that is in dire need of a new set of drive wheels ... the metal
plating is peeling off the wheel, leaving exposed brass below. This wheelset
has a gear mechanism in the middle of it.
See the wheelset here: http://zscalehobo.com/photos/marklin/bn_f7_truck_set.jpg

I have pulled the various part number sheets and found that the same item (19 or
14) on the charts is not a valid part number any longer. Anyone know the part
number to order or if there is a part number for the entire F7 truck assembly?

I have looked here:
http://www.maerklin.com/en/service/search/spare_parts/spare_parts/gauge_z.html?p\
age=1&perpage=299

Under the various F7's, I find the wheelset "treibradsatz" can have many numbers
... here are the numbers I find:
216476 (via 81830's part sheet, item 14 on F7)
E185235 HAMO WHEEL F4171 (via 8809's part sheet, item 19)
(via 8809's part sheet, item 19)
26561 E185235 HAMO WHEEL F4171 (via 8819's part sheet, item 19)
26561 E185235 HAMO WHEEL F4171 (via 8860's part sheet, item 19)
265610 (via 88601's part sheet, item 14)
265610 (via 88602's part sheet, item 14)
26561 (via 8861's part sheet, item 19)
216476 (via 88321 spare sheet, item 22)

More intereseting is that on the 88190, I see the TRUCK as an entire assembly:
http://www.maerklin.de/service/productservice/listengenerator.php?brand=1&artike\
lnummer=88190
Item 7 Drehgestell vorne 167858 (front truck assy)
Item 8 Drehgestell hinten 167859 (rear truck assy)

Does anyone know the presently available F7 wheelset part number?

Is Marklin no longer offering the wheel and only selling the entire truck
assembly?

Any insight is appreciated as I am trying to advance my locomotive service
capabilities. It will be difficult without spares.

Brass?Maybe an alloy but not brass.Have you cleaned the units and
re-tested? I just redid a 30+ M unit and saw no signs of 'peeling' on the
wheels.

Märklin changed spare part numbers and added a letter in front of them.So
hard to search without knowing. They also -now- to purchase 10 spare parts
at a time but this might be helpful if you doing a lot of repairs.

I do not know if any US M dealers keep an inventory of spare parts, you
might want to seek out German dealers who do:
