Dear Terry Jones fans,
This is your last chance to submit poems for the charity-book:
For this is the 40th anniversary of the beginning of the Monty Python, it would
be good if some Terry Jones fans join us, Cleesians.
The book is going to be a charity book:
These charities would be involved:
-Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust (DWCT) [Status: approved]
-Madagascar Fauna Group (Save the Lemur) [Status: approved]
-Amnesty International [Status: approved]
-Spike Milligan Statue Fund [Status: approved]
-Prince's Trust [Status: not replied yet]
-The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC, and
Childline)[Status: approved, but asked for a re-editing]
The book is very likely to be sold by John Cleese's Cheeseshop, but nothing's
decided yet. It's also likely that 15% will go to each charity and 10% to us,
"poets".
If any of you would like to submit a poem, please, do it asap, no later than
THIS week. You can post your poems directly to me, or to John's forum (JOHN'S
BIRTHDAY SURPRISE THREAD):
http://cleeseblog.com/Vanilla/
Thanks for your attention!
Best,
Chris

Hi Silvia and Everybody from Terry Jones Mailing List,
We from the John Cleese forum are still waiting for poems, limericks, haikus,
sonnets. These masterpieces can be written in ANY LANGUAGES, just all I'd like
to ask from you, write a short translation or a summarise what it's about. The
new deadline is around mid-August.
It's going to be published, and the majority of the income goes to charities
that John and the Pythons support.
You can post the poems right to me, or to John's forum:

a great tribute for the 40th anniversary of the Pythons (and the 70th

Thats fine.
Hey, I'm not saying I haven't had my doubts- if any of them were true, they
would rip this right open!!!! Some interesting questions could be asked here
but this is not our place, so I'm just going to send him well wishes and hope
for the best. I think people in his position have accepted that this kind of
media coverage comes with the territory, but i don't think it has ever been
negotiated as being part of the deal. They are still human and have rights to
some privacy and space.

I'm an admirer, not a therapist- I have no power to make his life any better. I
do think however that he is a sentient human being, and whilst the public
persona may not care, part of him may for a number of reasons, more personal
than public. A good word wouldn't hurt- I did mostly talk about his work, my
experience of it and how it has opened my eyes and changed my life, because it
did, but I also chose to send some love instead of criticism regards the news. I
don't think it is fair, regardless of your status in the public eye, that you,
your partner or your former wife should be physically followed around the street
or a park, or harassed at the home about your personal affairs. I'm not naive to
the fact that this is how it has been for a long time, but it still does not
make it right or fair, and in my eyes never will.

Hm. I didn't say that a letter congratulating someone on a new baby is a bad
thing. Congratulating him is harmless, and comes from a kind impulse.
I was commenting on the implication that somehow, if fans approved of what the
press seems to be disapproving of, that this matters one way or the other to Mr.
Jones. That we had some power to make him feel better about his life. His
*work*, maybe, but not his life.
You said, "I still don't think it is fair how they have been treated."
You're right, I guess I can't agree. Portions of the press makes their money
following the lives and loves of the famous. Fair just doesn't enter into it,
and if I thought he was suffering, sitting around worrying what the press
thought of his choices, I might feel indignant on his behalf. I just haven't
seen that; as I said, he seems inner-directed. I don't think as grown man he
needs our approval of his love life.
I got some push back by using the phrase "bastard child." While that is
technically correct, it has the implication of moral evaluation. I apologize
for that.

Now, that's an interesting position to take.
Terry's in the public eye, he conducts his life in a way pretty much guaranteed
to tick off the middle class, and apparently, doesn't give a fig what they
think.
Why are we imaging he cares, for instance, how the press characterizes him? Do
you think it's unfair for them to note that a famous senior citizen divorces his
long term wife to have a bastard child with a woman 40 years his junior? I
mean, it's all true, right? He doesn't deny it, and he doesn't seem to have any
embarrassment about it, so .....

What I mean is, if he doesn't care what people think, should I?

I felt compelled to send him a letter of support after the crap he and Anna have
faced. I know they are maybe used to it and have developed a tough skin, but I
still don't think it is fair how they have been treated. My love to both

Lectures are usually followed by some kind of book signing, so there shouldn't
be any problem saying hi and getting a photo. :)
AHHHH, there is a Python conspiracy on my computer...
Totally Terry has gone, and now Daily Python cannot be found.....

I've redirected terry-jones. net to a blog I'm working on. I'm still
having problems getting the new URL up and running so I'm stuck like
this at the moment. Feel free to visit the blog and have a look or make
some comments. Let me know if you like it and if it's working
smoothly...?
Cheers
Holly

Hi Silvia,
OK, good idea, write in Spanish, then please try to translate it for a better
understanding, but it doesn't matter if it's not perfect.
Thank you!

John's fans support the idea, I hope Michael Palin's will too. It'd be
a great tribute for the 40th anniversary of the Pythons (and the 70th
bday of John!).

Hi,
On John Cleese's forum we're collecting the poems and haikus by the members.
We'd like to publish these poems as a tribute to the Pythons. John's fans
support the idea, I hope Michael Palin's will too. It'd be a great tribute for
the 40th anniversary of the Pythons (and the 70th bday of John!).
If any of you want to participate, don't hesitate, write poems, haikus, whatever
you want.
Publishing this book isn't free, but it doesn't cost much: it's about 1.90 GB
pounds, or 2 euros, or 2.50 US dollars (per book). The more of us we take part,
the cheaper the book is.
You can send your poems directly to me:
christhebutcher14@...
or on John's forum:
http://cleeseblog.com/Vanilla/
The planned deadline is: 14th of March 2009.
Thank you for your attention!
Best wishes,
Chris
