Welcome to the Youth & Students for Mumia list. We are a nationwide list of youth and student activists fighting to stop the execution of African American journalist and political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal.
Mumia Abu-Jamal is on death row in Pennsylvania. Mumia joined the progressive movement at 15 years old as a member of the Philadelphia Black Panther Party. Later he became a radio journalist and continued to fight racism and police brutality.
In 1981 Mumia was framed for the murder of a white Philadelphia cop. His original trial was a farce presided over by pro-cop Judge Albert Sabo. Despite massive evidence on Mumia's innocence and judicial misconduct, the courts have refused to grant him a new trial to clear his name.
On April 24, 1999, thousands of people from all walks of life converged on Philadelphia to stop the execution and demand a new trial for Mumia Abu-Jamal. Again on May 7, 2000, over 6,000 people jammed the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York to demand justice for Mumia.
On this list you can read the latest news on Mumia's case, find out about protests and meetings in your area, and ask questions or offer help to others who are fighting for justice and utlimately the freedom of Mumia all over the country.
Be sure to let us know what you're doing. Youth & Students for Mumia can provide you with help and support to organize people from your campus, community, or job.
Free Mumia! End the racist death penalty!
