Rossmoor's official website
The formal, somewhat creaky online presence representing the Golden Rain Foundation, our community's very conservative iron-fisted governing body. Don't expect full disclosure, transparency or even trustworthy information. Comments below about the Rossmoor News apply here as well. A rather poor showing for such a large and complex senior community. Mainly touted by questionable realtors to unwitting prospective buyers. Seasoned residents know better. An organic testament to the principle of caveat emptor, which is Latin for "We don't gotta show you any stinkin' consumer protection." http://rossmoor.com/ |

S.O.S. (Save Our Stanley)
Begun in 2011, S.O.S. promptly amassed something approaching 4,000 resident signatures decrying the imminent destruction of Rossmoor's most scenic old-growth open space. This, to construct a sterile event center and parking lot costing over 10 million dollars, mostly from long-term bank loans at a time when Rossmoor has no reserves. A force for change and political reform, the group’s scope has broadened despite (or because of) the dismissive contempt shown S.O.S. by arrogant, out of touch officials. These inner circle eminences are personified, many feel, by Rossmoor’s highest elected official, Golden Rain Foundation Board President Susan Williamson, pictured on this chatboard’s home page. In short order, the president was booted out of office in a 3-to-1 landslide victory for her challenger, who opposed the event center location (which was the election’s focal point). In addition to the S.O.S. website, see http://tinyurl.com/7fvgjo6 (and related articles there) for more on the event center uproar. Critics consider the ordeal emblematic of a governance model so lacking in accountability, so devoid of checks and balances it enables a maladroit backroom bunch to summarily spurn notable community efforts such as the above-described citizen petition. http://saveourstanley.com/ |

The Rossmoor News
Soviet style highly censored official weekly "newspaper." Extremely slanted and exclusionary despite its resident financing via mandatory monthly dues from every homeowner - really just a propaganda sheet spouting officialdom's Politburo party line. Resident-authored opinion columns on internal Rossmoor political matters are strictly verboten, except when written by establishment officials in order to unfairly sway public thinking on controversial topics. No rebuttal columns are permitted. Issues from 2002 forward are partially archived and searchable using a frustrating, cranky, clunky search engine cynics might suspect is an intentional research hurdle. http://www.rossmoornews.com/ |
