Hello Ms Fishman,
We are keeping our announcements and website in English in order to provide
access even to very beginners. Many people are attracted to Yiddish and request
just a bit of assistance for being convinced starting to learn Yiddish.
Although the user interface at our Yiddish community is English, our
platform supports fully Yiddish language and special characters.
We are witnessing advanced Yiddish speakers offering less experienced students
to help with conversation sessions, based on volunteering. We believe this is
very positive and hope this will extend for the better of promoting Yiddish
language.
Thank you for your support.
Yoel

Dear friends,
Some of you saw our film: YIDDISH THEATER: A LOVE STORY when it had it's
theatrical run.
Thanks to those of you that helped- our film survived for months and months in
theaters nationwide proving that Yiddish theater and the levels of interest in
it is alive and kicking.
Finally we're out on DVD and as always we have no budget for marketing or
advertising.
We'd love to hear advice how to market this film with no budget and who do you
think might be interested and who do you suggest contacting to let them know the
film is out?
As some of you already know, the film played in theaters around the country and
got wonderful reviews in the LA TIMES, NY TIMES and many other publications.
The film is a funny and moving documentary about Yiddish theater in the US
today. It takes place over Hanukkah and is a unique and magical Hanukkah story.
The film is a contemporary film so it manages to bridge the gap and communicate
both with the Yiddish purists and also with a younger audience that doesn't know
Yiddish but is interested.
You can read more about the film on it's website:
http://www.yiddishtheater.net
or on our own website:
http://www.newlovefilms.com
Here's the Amazon link:

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. It's an important human and
cultural story and I want it to reach as many people as possible.

I'm also enjoying some family issues (nor vi simchas, boruch Hashem), and I
might consider the possibility. I already moderate the Yiddish Forum on
Yahoogroups, as well as 140 other groups (including Ivrit, Aramit, and other
language groups), so Yiddish Teachers would be a natural addition to what I
am already doing.
Lori, by the way, do not be so hard on yourself. Serious groups such as ours
have actually taken a plunge in activity across the board recently, because
of other options such as Facebook and MySpace. Those options have certain
problems that we do not face here.
Nobody else will be able to initiate constant conversations on the group
either - nor is that the purpose of the group. That's OK. When people do
have something important to discuss, I hope Yiddish Teachers will be here to
accommodate them.

If you haven't found any literate or native speaking Yidish individual to take over the moderation responsibility of your group, I might be willing to give it a try. I don't know if you would want a novice yiddish speaker to take over this job or not, but if this is a possibility I would be willing to give it a try. Let me know what you think. Tayere khaveyrim,
In light of the International Academic Conference A CENTURY OF YIDDISH
1908-2008, eYiddish.org has launched an improved version of the eYiddish
community.
The purpose of this virtual community is to promote contacts between Yiddish
enthusiasts and 'Yiddish curious' people. We believe, that more advanced
Yiddishists could help new students in many ways: virtual conversation tables,
articles about Yiddish culture or just help Yiddish practice over the phone.
As past or current teachers, your contribution could be huge. Becoming member
is free and open to everybody: http://eYiddish.org/community
In any case, I would be happy to have your feed-back, suggestion for
improvements and ... of course, your encouragements :-)
Yoel
tayere khaveyrim,
perhaps you have noticed the lack of activity on this list in the last few
months. I am sad to see there has been no conversation without my having
instigated it. I know there is a lot to say, but the conversations are not
being initiated. I am dealing with a number of family issues and am finding it
difficult to moderate here. If someone would step up and help I would
appreciate it a great deal, as i do not want this list to disappear due to
inertia, attrition or disinterest. Please let me know if you can help.
a dank in foroys,
Leyele
