The Middle East Forum at Yeshiva University seeks to encourage
intellectual dialogue and debate about the Middle East though the prism
of American interests. In conjunction with the MEF think-tank headed by
Dr. Daniel Pipes, MEF @ YU supports fighting radical Islam (rather than
terrorism), convincing the Palestinians that Israel is permanent, and
more robustly asserting U.S. interests with respect to Saudi Arabia.
Our events this year have drawn significant attendance (including 80 for our screening of a debate between Alan Dershowitz and Noam Chomsky on Israel's future after disengagement, and over 150 for our inaugural event, a lecture on "Radical Islam and the War on Terror" by Dr. Daniel Pipes) and spiked interest in the Middle East on campus. Numerous faculty members and individuals from the surrounding NY community have attended. We look forward to finishing our first year of operation strong with lectures on Iran and media bias. More information on those events will be made available in the days to come.
To learn more about MEF, we encourage students to visit the MEF website
(www.meforum.org) as well as the website of its affiliated Campus Watch
project ( www.campus-watch.org), which aims to critique and improve
Middle Eastern studies at American universities.
