When do Amaricanas start to lay eggs??   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #2986 of 3183 |
My Amaracanas hatched out the end of April 2009. When should the hens start
laying eggs? I have been anxiously waiting to find eggs but they don't seem to
be doing anything. The little cochin hen already started laying us about 24
eggs already but suddenly stopped laying. I am wondering if the 3 Guinea Fowl
that we have are stressing the hens? When I open their pen in the mornings and
the 14 of them come out the 3 guineas will run around like bowling balls and the
chickens are the pens. They will run them over and keep going. Could this be
stressing my girls out so much that they do not wish to lay eggs?

I have nesting boxes with straw in the coop ready to go. They are free range
birds and I have looked everywhere but do not find their nests and all 14 coop
back in at night time. At any given time I can go out and find all 14 running
around the yard.

Any help in this mystery would surly be appreciated

I doubt it, if they are freeranging they could get away from them. It could be several things, but most likely they have been successful in hiding their nests....

My Americanas do not lay as often as the Barred Rocks even on good days. Lucky for me since I am being buried in eggs. No extra light for mine-I want them to...

They should start anytime if they're getting proper light and nutrition - ours usually lay at about 6 months or so. You'll probably see eggs any day now!...

Yes, you can add a light to the coop, mornings are reccomended as less stressful. Windows for such sunlight as you can is good too. Labhaoise...
